Goddamn.
I haven’t posted anything on here in a minute.
I think I might start doing that again.
Let me bring you up to speed.
We just got a new drummer named Tate. He’s Josh Riner (of Venable)’s brother and he’s a super rad dude. He played his first show with us at the Emerson last weekend for Venable’s CD release show and he is an AWESOME job.
I was drunk as fuck when we played, but I knew it sounded good.
And I watched this video. Hahaha.

This Wednesday, we’re playing at the 1511. I’m super stoked because I’ve seen a bunch of rad shows there and I’ve always wanted to play a legit basement show. Not those shitty kind that you threw yourself when you were 15, but the kind that you’ve always have wanted to play. The kind that you’ve seen in the videos and read about in the books. The kind that you had wished to play with Minor Threat or Lifetime. Hahahaha.

The thing about the 1511 is that the dudes who go to a lot of the shows there are extremely close minded. “If its not punk, it sucks” is the mindset I think a lot of them have. I mean, we have our punk moments, but we’re not a straight punk band. And we have our metal moments, but we’re not a straight metal band. I like to think of us as a blend of punk, hardcore and metal. But more on the hardcore side. I would really like to write more hardcore/punk stuff though. I really don’t like the typical “chuga-chuga*pause*chuga-chuga” breakdowns all that much.
Scott, hes a dude who I see at every “Indianapolis Hardcore” show. Most people at the shows know him, but have never talked to him. They mostly think he’s a dick because if he doesn’t like your band, he’ll let you know it. He’s super straight edge and vegetarian. He goes to most of the shows at the 1511 and plays in a really sweet band called Picked Clean. I recently started talking to Scott and we traded some vinyl and talked about music and stuff. I think he’s a pretty alright dude.
Dave, the kid who booked the show and who lives at the 1511, also plays in Picked Clean. He’s not straight edge and he’s a super nice dude. My friend Mitch played in a band called State of Waste. Dave was looking for a band to play on Wednesday and Mitch recommended us. So, Dave calls me up and asks if we wanted to play and without thinking, I said yes because I have always wanted to play at the 1511. I didn’t know the date or any of the bands we’re playing with. I just wanted to play at the 1511.
The “Indy Hardcore” kids are wierd. The more of their shows you go to, the more respect you have from them. It’s wierd to me, but I understand how it makes sense. I’ve got to quite a few of their shows, so I guessed that why they booked us.
I found out that the show was on a Wednesday (sigh) with two bands that I haden’t heard of (sigh). But I started thinking about it and I was okay with it. I mean, theres pros and cons to the situation.
Pros:
- We’re playing at the 1511.
- They like us enough to have us play at the 1511.
- You can drink in the 1511.
Cons:
- If we suck or they don’t like us, they’ll probably never want to book us again.
- If no one comes, they’ll probably never want to book us again.
Our friends Venable played there on Friday and Nash and I went. The Fight Within opened up and I had remembered seeing them play with Secondary Consumer at the Emerson a long ass time ago. And Sean from Dead of Winter and Divebomb was playing drums for them! Battle played after them and they were pretty good. They played a pretty good “Nervous Breakdown” cover. Wholehearted played after them and they were awesome. We were supposed to play a show with them at a house in Franklin back in January, but all the locals got kicked off for some fucking stupid reason. And then the show got cancelled.
Deciever played after that and they are basically the shit. Think of Metallica and Slayer meets Kids Like Us. I’ve seen them play before and I am amazed everytime. They have like half the guys from Post Collapse and my long time friend Brandon on drums.
Venable played after that. And while they were setting up, Scott kept yelling “MOSH!” and was making fun of them. Their set was alright. I’ve seen them play better. I don’t think the 1511 is the right venue for them anyways.
Scott, Dave and their friend Skyler actually went to Venable’s CD release show. And two days later, I get a call from Joe Adams. He’s in the Courage Crew and everyone in the local hardcore scene knows who he is. He said that Scott told him to book us because we were the only good band at that show. And Joe said he listened to us on myspace and said he really liked us. So, he’s putting us on a show with Shai Hulud.
When he said that, I about shit my pants.
Shai Hulud is one of my favorite bands and I never DREAMED that I’d be playing a show with them. We’re playing with them at Studio 8 at the Murphy Building. It’s just a room with a stage made out of OSB. It’s the shit. I saw Casey Jones/Hour of the Wolf play there once and I saw I Rise/Soul Control/Have Heart/Bane play there another time.
We’re gonna be playing with Axis & Allies (a sweeeet punk hardcore band from Indy), The Carrier (sweet), Reign Supreme (YES!) and Shai Hulud. Joe’s gonna give us tickets to sell and flyers to give out. Tickets won’t be hard to sell for Shai Hulud. Hahahaha.
And Joe also put us on a show for this Saturday at the Murphy Building. It’s a benefit show with us, Picked Clean, State of Waste, Opponents and Venable. I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun. Scott said something like “This show is gonna be so funny. I can’t wait” or something like that. I think he just wants to make fun of Venable. We’ll see what happens.

ANYWAYS, that’s whats going on this week.
Dig.
